The Hyundai Elantra (Korean: 현대 엘란트라), or Hyundai Avante (현대 아반떼) in South Korea, is a C-Segment sedan (saloon) car from Hyundai of South Korea launched in October 1990 for the 1991 model year, and now in its fifth generation. The Elantra was formerly marketed as the Lantra in Australia and some European markets. In Australia, this was due to the similarly named Mitsubishi Magna Elante model. This gave rise to disagreement from other motor manufacturers, and the name was standardized as "Elantra" worldwide in 2001 (with the exception being Korea and Malaysia still selling under the name "Avante").
The fifth generation Avante, codenamed "MD", debuted at the 2010 Busan International Motor Show in April 2010. It features a 1.6L gasoline direct-injection engine, producing 103 kW (138 hp) and 167 Nm torque, mated to a new 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission. The design continues Hyundai's "fluidic sculpture" styling theme first seen in the 2011 Sonata. The new model went on sale in August 2010 in South Korea, and is expected to begin selling in Malaysia latest by end of 2011 as a 2012 model. It is good to have an introduction later than other market because later product normally has already had improvement based on customer early feedback.
The US version of the fifth generation Elantra debuted at 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show. It is powered by a new 1.8L Nu engine producing 148 hp (145 hp-PZEV) and 131 lb-ft (130 lb-ft-PZEV). EPA estimates for the new Elantra are 8.1 L/100 km in the city and 5.9 L/100 km on the highway. A VERY IMPRESSIVE NUMBERS FOR C-SEGMENT SEDAN. It was increased due to low coefficient of drag (Cd), just 0.28. Another impressive number, giving more grip. Thanks to the aerodynamic 'fluidic design' DNA of Hyundai.

The Elantra will be available in two trim levels-GLS and Limited. Some of the premium features will be proximity key entry with electronic push start stop button with immobilizer, navigation with touch screen.

Launching Review on actual car
It is well-known rumors in Malaysia that, Proton is developing Persona replacement model which to be launched soon too.. Probably later than the introduction of Elantra/Avante in Malaysia. It will be a tough battle for these two models since it is in the same segment and possibly attracting the same range of customers. But, it is worthy to wait for both models to be launched, then customer decide based on affordability, quality, design and so on..
Below are the hard model concept car of Proton Tuah (Persona-R) which has been showed to the public few times during the auto events. The third photo is spyshot of the prototype cars with heavy mask which undergo series of testing on local roads.
