KUALA LUMPUR: Naza Kia Malaysia, the official distributor of Kia Motors vehicles in Malaysia, launched the all-new Optima K5 on December 27 (today) safely. Under the hood is Kia Motors’ fuel-efficient Theta II 2.0-litre petrol engine which produces 165 ps and 198 Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Among the premium features included are auto-levelling HID xenon headlamps, individual LED daytime running headlights, dual-zone auto air-conditioner, a plush leather interior, a panoramic sunroof, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control and 18-inch alloy wheels. There are no less than six airbags around the cabin and the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) will help the driver avoid accidents.
All-new Optima K5 has been launched at its first ever Kia Red Cube in Malaysia which is located in Petaling Jaya alongside the Federal Highway.
The outlet, with a built-up size of 24,350 sq ft, will be the company's flagship showroom in the Klang Valley and will incorporate Kia Motors' new Global Space Identity.

DETROIT – The innovative Cadillac Converj Concept, a dramatic luxury coupe with extended-range electric vehicle technology, is moving forward as a production car that to be called the Cadillac ELR.

Development of the ELR is just underway, so details on performance, price and timing will be announced later.
The Cadillac ELR will feature an electric propulsion system made up of a T-shaped lithium ion battery, an electric drive unit, and a four-cylinder engine-generator. It uses electricity as its primary source to drive the car without using gasoline or producing tailpipe emissions. When the battery’s energy is low, the ELR seamlessly switches to extended-range mode to enable driving for hundreds of additional miles.

“The concept generated instant enthusiasm,” said Don Butler, vice president-Cadillac Marketing. “Like other milestone Cadillac models of the past, the ELR will offer something not otherwise present – the combination of electric propulsion with striking design and the fun of luxury coupe driving.”
Cadillac selected the name ELR to indicate the car’s electric propulsion technology, in keeping with the brand’s 3-letter international model naming convention.
The Converj Concept sparked the idea of combining the desirability of a grand touring coupe with electrification, said Ed Welburn, GM vice president, Global Design.
“There’s no mistaking it for anything but a Cadillac, an aggressive, forward-leaning profile and proportion showcases a uniquely shaped, modern vision of a personal luxury 2+2,” Welburn said.
Cadillac will reveal another new concept car on Thursday, Aug. 18, at a special event prior to the annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Cadillac also recently announced it will add two new vehicles to its product lineup in 2012, the XTS large luxury sedan and an all-new luxury compact sedan codenamed ATS which has been posted before by DriftJom.

Toyota Motor Corp. (7203) sought a court order in the U.S. approving its use of technology in hybrid electric vehicles, including the Prius and Lexus RX 400h, after an auto-parts company claimed its patents were infringed.
Efficient Drivetrains Inc., based in Palo Alto, California, has an exclusive license from the University of California for use of the technology, including the way electricity is drawn from a battery to power an electric motor and an internal combustion engine, according to a July 20 federal court complaint filed by Toyota in San Jose, California.
“EDI has contended that the Toyota Hybrids infringe each of the asserted patents and has indicated it intends to enforce” them, according to the complaint filed by the Toyota City, Japan-based automaker. “Toyota denies that.”
Toyota, the world’s biggest maker of gasoline-electric hybrid cars, sought a court ruling declaring it didn’t infringe the patents and that the patents are invalid. Such a ruling would preempt a potential patent infringement lawsuit by EDI and the University of California.
The five patents at issue also include technology, invented by EDI co-founder Andy Frank, on ways to control the power output of an internal combustion engine and a method to draw electricity to operate the electric motor and the internal combustion engine, together or separately depending on driving conditions, according to the court documents.

It is well-known rumors in Malaysia that, Proton is developing Persona replacement model which to be launched soon too.. Probably later than the introduction of Elantra/Avante in Malaysia. It will be a tough battle for these two models since it is in the same segment and possibly attracting the same range of customers. But, it is worthy to wait for both models to be launched, then customer decide based on affordability, quality, design and so on..

Ford Motor Company based in US has launched its bread and butter sedan model, MONDEO by 2009. Now, they are upgrading MONDEO and S-Max as well with EcoBoost engine. The upgraded version of Ford Mondeo is called Titanium. The booking is now open, and the car will be available by August this year onwards.
The Titanium version has been introduced few days ago with new looks ti remark the differentiation between previous version. It come with new bumper with LED day light, refine headlamps and rear combi lamps plus few more differentiation inside the car such as new IP panel, meter combi, and A/C vent at the B- pillar area.
What is EcoBoost?
"EcoBoost is a family of turbocharged and direct injected six-cylinder and four-cylinder gasoline engines produced by the Ford Motor Company. Engines equipped with EcoBoost technology are designed to deliver power and torque consistent with larger displacement, naturally aspirated engines while achieving approximately 20% better fuel efficiency and 15% reduced greenhouse emissions than these same engines. Relative to the power output and fuel efficiency of hybrid and diesel technologies, Ford sees EcoBoost as an affordable and versatile alternative and intends on using it extensively in future vehicle applications."
Ford is on the right track with the introduction of EcoBoost engine which is referring to turbocharging the engine to get more power with less fuel consumption. There are few major automakers in the world which already announced their plan for turbocharged engine. Same goes to Proton which is going to introduce new line-up of Campro engine with turbocharging concept for their coming model. Seems like our national car manufacturer, PROTON is up-to-date with current Powertrain technology. Bravo!
