#1 Major Japanese auto company are recalling their models these past years especially in the US.
#2 It comes two weeks after Honda spokesman said it was recalling nearly 700,000 vehicles globally due to defective parts that could stall the engine and cause problems restarting in certain models.
As of now, the recall announcement has been made for Civic Hybrid models (37,000 units) in US. Those models in South East Asia also might have been recalled soon.
More recall detail:
Model : Honda Civic Hybrid
Mftg. date: 2006-2007
Region : U.S., Japan, & other countries
Reason : Voltage converter possible failure (might cause engine start problem and headlight fail)
Hybrid drive train is quite new to customer and I guess nobody really sure what/where the voltage converter is..
There also no technical info (I don't think there will be one) from Honda about how the part problem can cause the engine start problem, headlight fail etc. But, as we know a voltage converter changes the voltage of an electrical power source to power supply. A voltage converter problem might lead to an unstable voltage which later on might cause other electronically controlled part to fail.
